MY CAMINO SCREW-UP

I decided to book ahead 8 days after Burgos. The Albergues (hotels) in the little towns are filling up fast. I arrived at my first Albergue, the only one in town, to discover that I was a day early and all of his 5 rooms were already booked! I’d gotten the dates confused. On the Camino it’s easy to do. What might seem like madness at home seems normal here. Tried to rebook everything, but it was impossible. He helped me get a room a few doors up in the town’s only hostel. Ahhh, another hostel experience. I had the room to myself and slept in a bunk bed with paper sheets! It was 21eu for bed, dinner & breakfast. I guess the Camino wants me to experience the joy of its hostels and it’s little town of Rabe de las Calzadas (pop 200)!

I ate dinner with a Spaniard, a Frenchman and a Brit. Somehow we all communicated and had a long, deep conversation about life, the changes on the Camino and the best restaurants. The Frenchman and the Spaniard were my age and on their 8th Camino.
