THE MAGIC IS BACK

I’m back in the hills. Yesterday I stayed in a sweet Hostal with a white horse outside my patio. My new favorite meal is now a slice of sourdough bread spread with avocado and slices of anchovies on top.  In the morning I passed through the town of Astorga which is famous for its chocolate! I had to make a few stops for sampling. I’ve been chatting with a German couple on and off. They took my picture by an amazing cathedral. Okay, all the cathedrals are amazing. But Astorga actually also has a building built by Gaudi. I became obsessed with Gaudi when I was in Barcelona a few years ago. All of his architecture is fantasmagorical. This one looks like a Disneyland castle.

It was a beautiful walk today. I walked 16 miles and it felt easy. My Hostal is fantastic and friendly. The Camino has not lost its magic. I just had a bad few days. If I’d known about that bleak stretch of highway I would have taken a bus!
